I was (pleasantly) surprised by EP's words and though I tend to be a boring old conservative, believe in the presence of such beings. In the Eastern Orthodox monastic tradition they call these thoughts, temptations, cravings, "Logismoi". In our secular psychologies, one of the most effective touted psychotherapy is "cognitive behavioral therapy" where the patient is encouraged to change his "stinkin thinkin" to more positive topics.

The demons and devil of olden days, now days are thought of as bad brain chemicals, "a chemical imbalance" in the brain which we deal with not by prayer and fasting, etc., but by pharmaceuticals. The cheapest and most effective as I can discern from what my patients tell me is cannibis.

As Dupont's old corportate slogan said, "Better living through chemistry."

So with all due respect to Ephraim, and I admire his open mindedness, I don't think it is the devil or demons, but the lack of meds that may be causing the problem.

All the best,

David MarkhamDavid G. I'll be the first to acknowledge that there are beings out there between us and God, that are very real and one can develop a positive relationship with them. It's not as farfetched as it might sound at first. My sweetheart Joe is *strikingly* adept at this.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
